Chivalry....is it still alive?

I read a book a year ago by Jessica Valenti called He's a Stud, She's a Slut and 49 other Double Standards Every Woman should know. The book gives a lot of good points about different double standards against women and how they relate to today's society.

In chapter 4 it explains how the He's a Hero, She's a Damsel factor is still relevant in society. It explains how people think that chivalry has gone out of style. Honestly, no woman should expect a man to open doors for her or hold her chair before she sits down but it's still nice. Some men expect something in return once they treat a woman this way but it shouldn't be that way, they should just do it because it's a polite thing to do.

Women should never expect a man to do such things because most men think that these things are old school or out of style. These actions most women find attractive in a man because it shows how good your upbringing was. Only count on yourself and don't expect anything from anyone because it's your life at the end of the day not theirs.

  1. This book looks really intriguing...it is a fine line between expecting chivalry and also being independent. Brooke A. also writes about double-standards - maybe she should check this out!

  2. I always thought certain rules that women are expected to follow seem unfair, and it's weird to think that things men do that are supposed to be polite are in some way contributing to the inequality of genders. The whole issue confuses me, but I hope I get some clarity after reading more of your posts.
